Had a strong person called us before we posted the ad, they could have gotten the job before running in to all that competition. How? By knowing someone at our company who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew about of the job for at least 13 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be careful to check your application materials thoroughly before submitting them. When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily removed with a speedy triage process. How? The same way any HR professional would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our job description. By passing over prospects whose cover letters gave us grounds not to hire them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating job hunters whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by eliminating prospects who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a sense of who is hiring, and for what kinds of positions. But once those positions are posted, the competition is intense. You can still try, if you have a well written resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another potential problem to be aware of is how quickly and easily you can be investigated on the net. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some personal web pages that were in questionable taste. Nothing illegal, but enough to swing our thoughts about who to choose.

Four of the companies under Eden Prairie along with three individuals under the same group were nominated as finalists for this year’s Tekne Awards. The awards ceremonies are going to be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Tekne Awards is conducted by the Minnesota High Tech Association along with the LifeScience Alley and Enterprise Minnesota. It was created to recognize companies and individuals that have been providing innovative technologies and leadership in the state.
Eden Prairie managed to get seven nominations including three individuals vying for the Technology Executive of the Year award.
Nominees from Eden Prairie for Technology Executive of the Year include the companies chairman, president and CEO for ADC Robert Switz, Digital River CEO Joel Ronning and VISI CEO Mike Sowada.

The said award recognizes individuals who are part of an executive team responsible for the development of technologies and related strategies within the company or an organization.

Aside from the three executives, Eden Prairie companies are also vying for this year’s Tekne Awards. These include Access Genetics LLC, finalist for small growing company, Logic and XATA Group for the established company division and Starkey Laboratories, Inc for the Medical Technology category.
