Pros and Cons of Sports Cars

Sports cars have many pros and cons, but this writer thinks sports car advantages far out way the negatives. After all, consider the rise of the sports car; since 1910 it’s been a unique and wonderful part of the American ideal of cruising highways faster than you’re supposed to.

The sports car was first created in 1910; the idea came from “touring cars” in Europe, designed for more speed. The first designs were used as both racing cars and sports cars. These were two seat and four-seat sports cars, but soon the smaller sports cars with two seats developed quite a following.

Manufacturers continued to optimize sports cars and continue to this day. Two seat sports cars are now the classic tradition. Upgrades to sports cars are widely available, from brand new foreign sports cars to American made racing vehicles.

As technology has grown, so has the sports car. Each new vehicle development takes the American love of sports cars into consideration: most major auto companies have a sports car line, from the Mustang to the Porsche.

There are many pros of modern sports cars. Let’s go over five key pluses..

  1. Sports cars offer the best engines with high quality
  2. Sports cars offer more maneuverability than other vehicles
  3. Sports cars give plenty of speed, sometimes race car speed
  4. Since most sports cars are aerodynamic because they’re low to the ground, they make sharp turns much faster
  5. Sports car accessories are available for every sports car on the road, and you can design one from the ground up with the right parts

There are other benefits to sports cars, but being able to design, literally, your own sports car is perhaps the most enjoyable. It’s not always cheap, but many manufacturers of sports cars and sports car accessories do give auto fanatics the ability to completely customize their ride.

There are some negatives to the modern sports car, though overshadowed by the pros. Let’s go over three cons.

  1. If you have a family, a two seat sports car may not be your primary vehicle
  2. Fuel economy is lower for sports cars
  3. Prices can add up the more you customize the sports car with accessories

Perhaps the most problematic is the family who only have the money for one vehicle, making sports cars far too confined for more than one passenger. Even with two seats you can expect your passenger to be cramped.

This isn’t the case with all sports cars. Some are designed with a bit more leg room, even allowing more storage space .But the point of a sports car is to go faster, and they do give you that.

And if you want a racing car, many manufacturers are making it fun and affordable.
